Environmental Pollution

ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION may be defined as  the "unfavourable alteration of our surroundings". It changes the quality of our air, water and land which interferes with the health of human beings and other life on earth.

Pollution is of different kinds depending on the nature of pollutant generated from different sources.
Ex: Industry, Automobiles, Thermal power plants, farming and nuclear reactors generate different types of pollutants causing pollution to air, water bodies and land.

Types of pollutants
  1. Biodegradable pollutants that degrade or decompose rapidly by natural processes.
  2. Non-biodegradable pollutants that do not decompose or decompose very slowly in the environment.
Different kinds of pollution that affect the environment are:
  1. Air pollution
  2. Water pollution
  3. Soil pollution
  4. Marine pollution
  5. Noise pollution
  6. Thermal pollution and
  7. Nuclear hazards

  3. This is a very relevant topic, as environmental pollution continues to be one of the biggest challenges worldwide. From air and water pollution to soil contamination, the impact on human health and ecosystems is significant. What’s important is not just understanding the problem but also adopting effective monitoring and control measures. Technologies like dust sensorscan play a key role in tracking air quality in real time, helping industries and communities take timely corrective actions. Creating awareness and promoting sustainable practices are essential steps toward reducing environmental pollution.
